The Unshakable Balance
when the mind likes, it pulls...
when the mind dislikes, it pushes...
when the mind stops pushing and pulling, it is in a calm and relax state.
this was what i learnt last night while attending the buddhist charity event held by the buddhist club of unsw in celebration of their 26th birthday.
as usual, i attended it with an open mind trying to grasp something. 'first hand' taught us that as volunteers, we should approach religion with an open mind and try to understand how the patient feels.
buddhism teaches HOW to lead our lives while christianity SHOWS the WAY of life. think about it, christianity says love one another while buddhism teaches how to love by being unselfish, not self-centered etc. everything about buddhism is about giving up self-centeredness and good kharma will follow. the life of a christian is giving up worldly stuffs with a price to pay but our rewards in heaven above. buddhists do not worship any gods while there is only one Lord in the eyes of a christian.
still, i so totally agree with yesterday's message. the mind pulls when it likes and it pushes when it dislikes. isnt that whats happening in our daily lives be it any religion? so if we do not attach or bind ourselves too tightly to a thing (relationships or food), eventually we'll realise that it is just a thing because that thing gives us happiness for that moment not forever. is my point getting across?
the main part of the show was a skit being put up by the club members. as the prince went around trying to find his 'princess', I kept thinking where's mine? anyways...he eventually found her but she wasnt a princess. he became sad that he couldnt marry her.
One day...God shall give me the best 'prince' cuz He is our provider. (zebra,i'm still playing with that musical box)
so yah... my point is...
don't attach yourself too firmly to a thing.
eg. good mango = happy grace =)
bad mango = sad grace =(
in the end, it is JUST A MANGO.
God bless.
